Whānau Mercy Ministries celebrate the election of Pope Leo XIV. In his blessing to the crowds in St Peter’s Square, Pope Leo spoke about the importance of Catholics being willing to proclaim the Gospel, work for justice and peace, to be missionaries in the world. That aligns very much with the mission of Whānau Mercy Ministries, and we say a prayer for him as he leads our church into the future.
We are excited to note that he has a strong Mercy connection as he was born in a Mercy hospital and his father was a Mercy primary school principal.
Bishop Steve Lowe in the Auckland Diocese said “There is a real sense among the faithful that the popes that have been elected in recent decades have had the right attributes to lead the Church at that moment. We trust that will be the same with Pope Leo XIV.”
We too share the anticipation that the papacy of Pope Leo XIV continues on the path of Mercy and Hope that Pope Francis has laid down for us to follow.
We have since found out other strong Mercy connections that you can read about here.
