Mercy in Action
Whānau Mercy serves communities through its education, healthcare, and social development ministries. Guided by the values of aroha, whanaungatanga, and kaitiakitanga, every ministry continues to reflect the spirit of Catherine McAuley and the Sisters of Mercy, by working to create lasting change.
At the heart of Whānau Mercy Ministries is a commitment to serving others, guided by the enduring teachings of Catherine McAuley and the rich mission of the Sisters of Mercy. Each of our ministries embodies this mission in its own distinct and impactful way, from providing holistic education that nurtures the mind, body, and spirit, to compassionate healthcare that attends to both the physical and emotional needs of those we serve. Our community development initiatives focus on social justice, empowerment, and advocacy, creating pathways for individuals and communities to thrive.
Grounded in the values of justice, mercy, and love, our work touches every facet of life, offering unwavering support to those most in need. Education
Empowering Minds, Shaping Futures
Education has always been a core ministry of Mercy, deeply rooted in the vision of Catherine McAuley and the ongoing mission of the Sisters and Tiaki Manatū. At the heart of our educational philosophy is a commitment to holistic development – nurturing not only the intellectual, but also the spiritual, emotional, and physical growth of each student. Catherine McAuley believed strongly in the empowerment of women, and this belief continues to inspire us today.
Our Mercy education challenges students to go beyond academic excellence and engage with the world as compassionate and just leaders. We instill in them a sense of responsibility towards their communities, encouraging them to embrace the values of Gospel justice. Through Mercy’s educational programs, students are equipped not only with knowledge but with the moral compass to advocate for justice, equity, and the well-being of others. Our goal is to shape individuals who will actively contribute to a more fair and compassionate society, following the enduring spirit of Catherine’s mission.

Health
Healing with Compassion, Caring for the Whole Person
Mercy healthcare ministries are an extension of the healing ministry of Jesus, embodying the love of God and the compassionate vision of Catherine McAuley. At the heart of our healthcare services is a deep commitment to serving those who are most vulnerable—whether due to age, illness, or circumstance. Our approach is not just to treat the physical ailments but to care for the entire person, addressing the emotional, spiritual, and social dimensions of well-being.
Guided by Mercy’s core values of compassion and human dignity, our healthcare ministries provide a holistic approach to healing that uplifts those in need. We recognize that true healing encompasses more than medical treatment; it requires understanding the person as a whole, respecting their journey, and supporting their unique needs. Whether through hospitals, aged care services, or community health programs, Mercy continues to serve with love, offering comfort and hope to those facing life’s most difficult challenges.
Our work in healthcare is an expression of our belief in the inherent value of every individual and our mission to promote human wholeness, especially in the face of vulnerability.

We believe that strong, healthy communities are built through empowerment, compassion, and unwavering support for those who are most vulnerable. Our work is driven by Mercy’s core values, particularly Te aroha ki te rawakore – our commitment to reaching out to the poor and marginalised.
Through a wide range of initiatives, we focus on uplifting individuals and communities by providing opportunities for personal and professional growth. Whether through educational programs, social services, or advocacy efforts, our goal is to break the cycles of poverty, inequality, and hardship. Mercy’s community development efforts not only offer immediate assistance but also foster long-term resilience and self-sufficiency, empowering people to take charge of their own lives.
Grounded in the mission of Catherine McAuley and the rich traditions of Mercy, our work is both practical and spiritual, recognising that true transformation comes from addressing the whole person – body, mind, and spirit. Our social advocacy promotes systemic change, challenging unjust structures and working towards a society where all can thrive, regardless of their circumstances.
