Responding to the needs of the community, the Sisters of Mercy established a hospital in Dunedin in 1936. Today, Mercy Hospital proudly continues the Sisters’ legacy, by delivering ‘exceptional care that makes a difference’ for the people of Otago and Southland.
We continue Catherine McAuley’s work through an extensive charitable outreach programme, including surgical fees relief for patients who would otherwise be unable to access timely intervention.
Mercy’s staff are guided by our values of Hiranga (Excellence), Atawhai (Care), Kotahitanga (Collaboration) and Whakaute (Respect).
Mercy’s Dunedin campus includes its namesake tertiary level surgical hospital, nine operating theatres, an intensive care unit, day surgery unit as well as joint venture partners Mercy Heart Centre and Mercy Cancer Care.
We are proud to be part of the Whānau Mercy Ministries.
